INVESTIGATION CONTINUES FOR HIT-AND-RUN PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT

Sep 17, 2013 - Pedestrian Accidents

When a serious accident occurs, those involved and their loved ones will seek to understand what happened and if it could have been avoided. When the incident was a hit-and-run collision, this can cause many questions to go unanswered while the investigation continues on. In some cases, a motorist may not stop, following a pedestrian accident, because it was late at night and they were unsure what they collided with. Even if a driver believes that they struck an animal on or near the roadway they should stop to ensure the scene is safe to leave.

Authorities in Pennsylvania are currently investigating a hit-and-run that resulted in serious injuries. State Police in Towanda reported that a pedestrian was recently struck in Canton Township. The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on North Center Street.

According to reports, the 18-year-old man was walking along the roadside. They suspect that a vehicle stuck the man, and authorities believe a side mirror of a vehicle hit the pedestrian. Emergency crews responded to the accident and indicated that the young man suffered major injuries from the collision.

An investigation is ongoing and authorities are attempting to locate the vehicle that struck the man. If the driver in the hit-and-run is apprehended they could face serious criminal and civil penalties. The injured pedestrian could file a personal injury claim for the pain and suffering that resulted from the accident. Compensation awarded could cover medical bills, rehabilitation and lost wages.

A hit-and-run accident could result in many unanswered questions, which could cause additional grief for those affected in the incident. The victim and their loved ones should understand the process and possible options to recover from the accident. This might require gaining advice from an experienced attorney who can explain the situation, offer support and help them determine the legal routes to pursue.
