OFF-DUTY COP INVOLVED IN FATAL PHILADELPHIA CRASH

Sep 27, 2013 - Wrongful Death

Following a fatal accident, investigators will attempt to uncover the cause. This not only indicates the liable party but it also helps the family and friends understand how and why a loved one died. In the end, this could also help with the coping process because dealing with the death of a loved one is often a difficult event. Although a lengthy investigation process could cause hardships and emotional breakdowns for the loved ones, it could lead to a cause of action against the liable party.

A fatal accident in Philadelphia is currently under investigation. According to reports, a Philadelphia police officer was involved in the collision that occurred a week after the death of his ex-wife. The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. on State Road. The two vehicles collided at an intersection with flashing lights. Reports indicated that the lights were flashing yellow when the off-duty officer was approaching the intersection while the lights were flashing red when a van reached the intersection.

The collision of the two vehicles ended tragically. The 55-year-old male driver of the van did not survive the crash and the off-duty officer suffered injuries that were treated at the hospital. The collision is still under investigation and authorities reported that the off-duty officer had just left a restaurant that served alcohol right before the collision.

It is not clear at this time if the officer was drunk at the time of the collision. Once investigation is complete, fault can be determined. This could mean a cause of action for the loved ones of the deceased driver. A wrongful death claim could be file din order to obtain compensation for funeral costs, damages, lost wages and pain and suffering.

A fatal crash often requires lengthy investigation in order to properly determine the cause and fault. This can be a difficult even to go through whether a person was killed, injured or affect by the crash, but can lead to some justice.
