PENNSYLVANIA TRUCK DRIVER CITED AFTER ACCIDENT INVOLVING INJURIES

Jul 26, 2013 - Truck Accidents

Trucks of various sizes can be seen traveling on the roadways in Pennsylvania and other states across the nation. Whether it is a pick-up truck or an 18-wheeler, an incident on the road involving a truck or multiple trucks could involve serious injuries and severe damages to the vehicles and road. Although any accident could result in tragedy, atruck accident is likely to cause a large accident site, injuries and road closures.

Pennsylvania State Police recently responded to a collision that involved a pick-up truck and a tractor-trailer. According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred on Interstate 70 at around 9:45 a.m. The two vehicles collided when the driver of the tractor-trailer moved into the left lane of the Interstate to pass the pick-up truck. It was alleged that the driver of the pick-up truck slowed down in order to move into the left lane so he could make an illegal U-turn in a turnaround on the highway, which is marked for emergency vehicles only.

While carrying out this maneuver, the front bumper of the tractor-trailer struck the pick-up truck, which resulted in the vehicle traveling forward and coming to a rest with the vehicle partially in the median. This also caused the driver of the tractor-trailer to swerve his vehicle to the right, which caused the two trucks to collide. The driver of the tractor-trailer attempted to correct the vehicle and go back into the left lane, but the driver lost control and caused it to flip onto the passenger side of the truck in the right lane of the road.

Emergency crews responded to the incident and transported the passenger in the tractor-trailer and the driver of the pick-up truck to the hospital for the injuries they suffered. The driver of the pick-up truck was cited for failing to stay in his lane. This could also result in the driver being liable for the injuries suffered by the passenger in the tractor-trailer. A personal injury claim could be filed against him to recover compensation for medical bills, lost wages, damages and pain and suffering.

Accidents on the roadway could be caused by the negligence of a driver. Those who suffer from the negligence of another driver could seek to have any or all financial burdens covered. Those unsure of their options and potential remedies should seek advice from a qualified professional.
