TEEN DIES AFTER PENNSYLVANIA MAN HITS HIM WITH TRUCK

Jul 5, 2013 - Wrongful Death

Certain fads never go out of style. Kids and adults of all ages still enjoy strolls outside or a nice bike ride. With the growing trend of Pennsylvania residents utilizing their bicycles to commute from home to their destination, bike safety is a huge concern. It is not only stressed that bike riders take the necessary precautions while they ride, but drivers of vehicles must also be aware of bike riders during both the day and night.

If collisions were to occur between an automobile and a bicyclist, the likely outcome is either serious injuries or a wrongful death. To avoid adverse outcomes, both bike riders and drivers should be on the lookout for one another and follow the rules of the road.

A Pennsylvania man struck a teen while driving a truck. The 13-year-old boy was on his bicycle en route from a friend’s house to his home during the evening. At around 8:39 p.m., a truck driver collided with the boy, throwing him off of his bike and causing him to land on a walking trail. It was reported that the driver of the truck fled the scene shortly after the crash.

Emergency crews responded to the accident and transported the young boy in critical condition to the hospital, but he did not survive his serious injuries. The driver of the truck was located by a volunteer firefighter shortly after the incident not far the scene of the crash. The man has been charged with various crimes including second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.

In addition to the criminal charges, the family of the young boy could file a wrongful death suit on his behalf. Compensation from the suit could go towards medical expenses, funeral bills, damages and pain and suffering.

Tragedy can strike at anytime and can come in the form of negligence or a pure accident. Not all collisions can be avoided, but most drivers can reduce their chances of being involved in an accident by taking necessary precautions.
