Apr 26, 2013 - Pedestrian Accidents

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Friday, April 26, 2013. Remaining attentive while driving is crucial. Today there are so many distractions for drivers, it makes it challenging to not multi-task while driving. Not being alert to the surroundings could cause a driver to collide with another vehicle or a person. If a driver is not paying close enough attention, they may go through crosswalks without double-checking or reducing their speeds. Pedestrian accidents usually result in serious injuries or could turn fatal. A closed unsolved hit-and-run case was recently reopened. It was almost a year ago when a vehicle stuck a 76-year-old woman while she was crossing the street. She did not survive the injuries she suffered and the pedestrian accident was deemed a hit-and-run. A 26-year-old man was charged with leaving the scene of a collision causing death after an anonymous source turned him in. The suspect’s ex-girlfriend had confided in the source that turned him in. She claims that she was asleep in the vehicle and was woken up by the sound of the collision with the woman. She stated that they were near the Newark Free Library, which was the location of the pedestrian accident. Detectives obtained a warrant to search and seize the man’s vehicle and an FBI lab confirms that the evidence left at the scene of the accident matched his vehicle. The man was arrested, charged and later released on a $1,000 bail. Accident can be very […]

Apr 24, 2013 - Pedestrian Accidents

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. The impending warm weather often means more outdoor activities here in Pennsylvania. Local residents will ride their bikes, rollerblade and jog outside in areas where vehicles frequent. That can pose several risks to those on the sidewalks, the side of the road and crosswalks at or near intersections. Both automobiles and trucks need to keep an eye out for anyone out on the streets because a collision between a person and a vehicle could occur. When a pedestrian accident occurs involving someone walking, jogging or even inline skating, the unprotected pedestrian will most likely suffer serious injuries. A collision occurred between a roller blader and a truck in Middleton. The accident happened around 8 p.m. on Woodbourne road. A 15-year-old was inline skating north on the west side of North Woodbourne road. The vehicle involved in the impending accident was traveling west on Fourth Street. As the truck was approaching North Woodbourne Road, the inline skater crossed in front of the truck. Unable to stop, the truck struck the teen. According to the driver, the traffic signal was green and a vehicle in front of him turned left, and he continued going straight across the intersection. Authorities responded to the accident, and the teen suffered a cut to his arm. He was treated at a medical center for his injury. The collision is still being investigated to determine cause and liability. If the […]

Apr 17, 2013 - Truck Accidents

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Truck Accidents on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Large vehicles such as semi-trucks, tractor trailers and dump trucks frequent the roadways on a daily basis. These massive vehicles usually carry large loads, and when a truck accident occurs, their shipments or loads are often damaged. In addition, the damage that trucks create is often severe and these incidents can cause serious injuries and even death. Truck accidents do not only cause damage and injuries but they can also create huge traffic delays or cause roads to temporarily close while the accident site is cleared. Two tractor-trailer trucks and a dump truck were all involved in a collision in Harrisville on a rural Pennsylvania highway. The accident occurred on Route 8 at around 8:30 a.m. The three-vehicle wreck happened when a tractor-trailer jackknifed. The driver of the tractor-trailer was stopping for a motorist that was making a turn, which caused the driver to hit a logging truck. Behind the logging truck was a dump truck, and the first collision caused the dump truck to crash into the logging truck. Emergency crews responded to the wreck and assessed all the victims that were involved. It was reported that the driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to the hospital. The conditions of the other drivers are not known at this time. The road was closed for several hours while crews worked on clearing the road of any hazards. Investigation is ongoing for this […]

Apr 15, 2013 - Pedestrian Accidents

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Monday, April 15, 2013. Whether it is night or day, summer or winter, residents are seen utilizing the sidewalks and crosswalks in Pennsylvania. While on their way to work, school, stores or other destinations, pedestrians are frequently walking in areas where vehicles are constantly present. In places where both pedestrians and cars frequent, it is important that both are aware of one another so a pedestrian accident does not occur. There is an ongoing investigation into an incident that involved a Pennsylvania judge’s 22-year-old son. The collision occurred while the judge’s son was visiting the Pittsburgh area. A vehicle struck the young man in early morning Saturday traffic. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he died the next morning. It is not known as this time whether the victim was in the crosswalk or his exact whereabouts. The details of the vehicle were not released, but local authorities are actively investigating this fatal pedestrian collision and are searching for the driver that is liable. When a person is killed in an accident like this, the loved ones of the deceased may file a wrongful death suit. Wrongful death suits can assist with financial burdens that resulted from the incident. These burdens can include medical bills, funeral costs, damages and pain and suffering. Pedestrian accidents can be very tragic and usually result in serious injuries or death. The emotional components involved in the […]

Apr 13, 2013 - Truck Accidents

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Truck Accidents on Saturday, April 13, 2013. An accident can be caused for various reasons and that cause could create a domino effect resulting in a chain-reaction incident involving multiple vehicles. An initial truck accident could turn into a massive collision involving numerous vehicles. This could result in serious injuries, tremendous damage to the vehicles and even fatalities. Large multiple vehicle accidents can also damage the roadway, create hazards for other drivers and cause huge traffic delays during the cleanup process. In Pennsylvania, a multi-vehicle accident occurred at 3:00 p.m. on the turnpike near Philmont Avenue in Lower Southampton Township. The cause of the afternoon accident was determined to be due to a fallen ladder. The ladder fell on a truck, which then caused a chain-reaction accident involving seven other vehicles. Three people were transported to local hospitals. However, none of the injuries suffered were life-threatening. The massive accident site caused traffic to be backed up for about three miles. The liable party for the ladder falling on the truck was not reported at this time. A person who is injured in a multiple vehicle truck or car accident could file a personal injury suit to gain compensation for the injuries suffered and damages sustained. The accident could result in several expenses and the compensation awarded could cover medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and other losses. Incidents and hazards can occur on the roadway causing dangers for […]

Apr 11, 2013 - Pedestrian Accidents

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted inPedestrian Accidents on Thursday, April 11, 2013. Some incidents could be described as being a freak accident, out of the ordinary or even odd. No matter the reason or the cause, pedestrian accidents usually involve a vehicle striking a person and often result in serious injuries. A person who gets struck by a vehicle has little chance to survive with little to no injuries. The automobile, on the other hand, can usually leave the accident with little to no damage. A pedestrian accident can result in financial burdens and a lengthy path to recovery for the injured party. In late March, authorities responded to a pedestrian accident that was a bit unusual. Not a person but rather a dog was operating a vehicle that struck a Pennsylvania man. He had apparently noticed the vehicle propelling towards a stationary truck. That’s when the man made the attempt to stop the collision from occurring but got caught between the two vehicles in the process. The man then fell and was knocked unconscious. He later regained consciousness at a hospital where he was taken for treatment. According to reports, the vehicle was initially running and left unattended with the dog inside. The dog pushed on the gear causing the vehicle to begin to move. It was not reported as to whether there were any citations or liability attributed to the vehicle owner. In bizarre cases like these, the vehicle owner of an unattended vehicle […]

Apr 4, 2013 - Truck Accidents

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Truck Accidents on Thursday, April 4, 2013. Large semi trucks are a common sight on major roads in Pennsylvania. When a truck accident occurs, the large size and weight of the truck can result in more serious injuries to occupants of other vehicles. In addition, a shifting load on a semi truck can lead to an accident and increase its severity. A collision between a large semi truck and an SUV happened on I-95 in Chester recently. The crash occurred in the morning hours and involved a vehicle-carrier truck carrying a shipment of golf carts. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of the incident and one person was found to have suffered minor injuries. The accident site caused traffic to be tied up for several hours while the site was cleared of debris and the damaged vehicles. The details surrounding the damages and injuries are not clear from the news report. It is not known if police are conducting an investigation, although this would be likely in a case like this. It is also not known if the golf carts being transported by the truck played any role in causing the accident or increased the damage from the accident. A person injured in an accident involving a commercial truck may be able to file a personal injury claim if the negligence of the truck driver was a substantial factor in causing the accident. In most cases, the truck […]

Apr 2, 2013 - Car Accidents

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Car Accidents on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. A multi-vehicle collision involves not only several victims and vehicles, but often creates a busy accident site that can be challenging for emergency crews. A car accident can result in serious injuries, fatalities, severe damage to vehicles and possible road closures. Those critically injured will need medical attention promptly. When a large multi-vehicle accident occurs, emergency crews must work hard to attend quickly to all those who need help. A recent collision between a tractor-trailer and a Ford Mustang caused a chain-reaction accident that ultimately involved four vehicles. The accident seriously injured several people and trapped two in their vehicles. The accident occurred on Route 54 just outside of Elysburg at around 2:30 p.m. Witnesses state that the accident occurred when the Mustang, driving in the eastbound lane, slowed down and a tractor-trailer crashed into its rear. This caused the Mustang to travel into the westbound lanes where it collided with a Toyota Prius. The chain-reaction collision ended with a pick-up truck crashing into the Prius. Emergency crews dispatched to the scene worked hard for nearly 40 minutes to free the driver of the Mustang and the driver of the Prius from their vehicles. It was reported that five people involved in the collision were sent to a local hospital for treatment of the injuries they suffered. This incident is still under investigation, and it may take time to sort out who […]

"Working with this firm was an amazing experience. I worked with Jeremy Puglia and from the very beginning I felt confident that he would do his absolute best for me. He took the time to inform me every step along the way and made me comfortable. Navigating the legal waters is a confusing process and I was grateful that Jeremy was there the whole time. He was great at communicating with me quickly and was flexible about meeting outside of his office. I would highly recommend him and should I have a need for a lawyer in the future, I wouldn't hesitate to contact Jeremy."
