ONE KILLED AND TWO INJURED AFTER COLLISION

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Car Accidents on Friday, May 31, 2013. Whether people are heading home late from work, leaving a friend’s place or were out late with friends or co-workers, driving late at night can be dangerous. Although risks exist at anytime, a driver getting behind the wheel at night can create additional risks such as bad night vision, distractions and even drunk driving. Nighttime car accidents can be very serious and even fatal. Drivers who feel it isn’t safe for them to be on the road late at night should avoid driving, or should avoid distractions such as texting while driving. A two-car collision occurred in Lancaster County on Route 30 near Mountville. The accident happened around 12:20 a.m. when a vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction on the roadway and crashed into another vehicle. Emergency crews responded to the wreck and began assessing the victims involved. Three victims were transported to the hospital to be treated for their serious injuries. A passenger in one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the hospital and the two drivers were reported to be in critical condition. Authorities are still investigating the accident and stated that they had been responding to a report of a vehicle traveling the wrong-way when the fatal car crash happened. TWO-VEHICLE COLLISION KILLS ONE AND INJURES THREE

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Wrongful Death on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Residents of Pennsylvania understand that when they are traveling on a roadway, their lives are often at risk. Whether they are drivers or passengers, they could become a victim in an automobile collision and suffer injuries or even death. A wrongful death could be the result of a motor vehicle accident. These types of crashes can be especially traumatic and emotional, and they can alter the lives of the loved ones of the deceased. They do not only suffer the loss of their loved one, but they also endure financial burdens relative to the accident. A passenger of a vehicle involved in a two-car crash died recently. The driver of the vehicle she was in was at a traffic light and was trying to make a left turn. The driver was following a tractor-trailer through the intersection. The light had changed without the driver realizing it, and during the attempt to make the turn, the passenger side of the vehicle was struck by another car traveling through the intersection. The driver of the first vehicle, the front passenger in the vehicle and a back passenger all suffered injuries. Three helicopters were requested to fly the injured victims, but this request was reduced to two when emergency crews determined the injuries suffered by the front passenger of the vehicle were fatal. The driver of the other vehicle was transported by ambulance to the […]

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT WITNESSED BY SEVERAL, ENDS IN ONE FATALITY

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. Although it is extremely common for residents to use vehicles to get from one destination to another in Pennsylvania, it is just as common for residents to utilize sidewalks and crosswalks to get from place to place. Places where pedestrians and vehicles frequent are also areas where there is a risk for pedestrian accidents. A collision between an automobile and a person can be very severe, and result in serious injuries, even fatalities. A fatal pedestrian accident occurred on a Friday afternoon in Martins Ferry. A 68-year-old man was crossing Zane Highway on his way to a gas station when a vehicle, that was making a right turn from Hanover Street, struck him. Emergency crews responded to the collision, and transported the pedestrian to the hospital, where he later died. Police are investigating the accident, and spoke with the driver and witnesses. The driver indicated that he did not see the man crossing the street. The cause of the accident has yet to be determined, and authorities have not yet determined if any charges will be filed. The family members of the deceased man could file a wrongful death lawsuit. This would help cover any medical bills, funeral costs, damages and pain and suffering. A pedestrian accident usually ends tragically. A person will either suffer serious injuries or result in their death. The loved ones of the deceased usually experience emotional harm in […]

MULTI-VEHICLE COLLISION INJURES TWO

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Car Accidents on Monday, May 13, 2013. Morning and afternoon traffic can be very stressful for Allentown drivers, especially when they are in a rush to get to their destination. During these rush hour times, the congested traffic on the roadways can increase the chances of a car accident occurring. Not only are crashes more likely during these times, but the chances of more than two vehicles being involved are greater. With the large amount of vehicles traveling on the roadway during these times, the severity of the accident can be tremendous, and commonly results in serious injuries, even fatalities. A three-car crash occurred during the afternoon in Roaring Springs recently. Emergency crews were called to the multi-vehicle collision shortly before 5 p.m. It was determined that the three vehicles crashed into one another at the intersection of Woodbury Pike and Cross Cove Road. One driver was seriously injured, and another had to be removed from their damaged vehicle by firefighters. It was determined that a SUV rear-ended a car, and a pickup truck crashed into the SUV at an angle. Police are still investigating the collision, and are still finalizing cause and any liabilities. No drivers were cited at this time. A person injured in an automobile collision could file a personal injury claim. Financial burdens such as medical bills, damages and pain and suffering could be covered by the claim. Increased traffic does mean more vehicles traveling […]

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK AFTER CAR LOSES CONTROL AND HITS PARKED CARS

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Pedestrian Accidents on Sunday, May 12, 2013. Accidents can involve multiple vehicles and victims. The surrounding area affected by an accident could be quite large depending on the severity of the crash. Large-scale accidents might cause additional automobiles to be involved or could even include pedestrians in the area. A pedestrian accident is often a grave occurance and will commonly result in serious injuries or even death. Both pedestrians and drivers should be aware of one another in order to avoid a collision. Recently, a pedestrian was critically injured after being stuck by a vehicle. The accident happened around 9:15 p.m., and the pedestrian was struck following a motor vehicle accident. A police officer stated that they witnessed two vehicles that appeared to be speeding on the roadway. One of the vehicles lost control and struck two parked cars and a pedestrian. Emergency crews responded to this collision and the pedestrian was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The crash investigation is completed but police are still investigating the incident. They have not determined whether the driver will be charged or not. Regardless of where criminal charges are filed, a person injured in a pedestrian vehicle crash like this always has the option to file a personal injury claim in order to seek compensation. Compensation can help pay for the injuries he or she suffered and the financial burdens the victim has experienced from the accident. Medical bills, rehabilitation, […]

COLLISION BETWEEN BUS AND TRAIN KILLS ONE AND INJURES SEVERAL

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Car Accidents on Friday, May 10, 2013. Mass transit vehicles are important forms of transportation and are frequently used by residents in Pennsylvania. When a bus crashoccurs, not only can severe damage occur but the collision could also result in multiple injured victims. These large-scale vehicles can carry numbers of passengers and are usually not equipped with safety restraints. When a bus collision occurs, the passengers could be tossed around and could endure serious injuries. Drivers should use caution when traveling near or behind mass transit vehicles because they tend to make frequent stops. A fatal collision recently occurred between a bus and train in Evans City. At around 8 a.m., a rural bus carrying senior citizens and people with developmental disabilities entered a train crossing and appeared to have stopped on the train tracks. The engineer saw the bus, sounded the horn and attempted to stop the train. His efforts did not prevent the collision that caused the bus to travel about 20 feet. The bus did not overturn but the crash resulted in the death of an elderly woman. About 10 passengers on the bus suffered injures from the accident. Police are still investigating the bus crash and are determining whether the dense fog that morning had any contribution to the accident. The family of the deceased passenger has the option to file a wrongful death claim. The compensation that might result could go towards funeral costs, […]

TWO-TRUCK COLLISION RESULTS IN ONE FATALITY

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Truck Accidents on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Pennsylvania residents see trucks frequent the roads and understand the importance of the vehicles to transport items and shipments timely. Truck drivers are often in a rush to reach their destinations, which are often long distance and on the other side of the country. This causes some truck drivers to drive long hours, which may lead to the driver becoming fatigued. This can be dangerous because the driver isn’t fully aware and attentive. This poses a great risk for truck accidents. Police are investigating a collision between a box truck and tractor-trailer truck. The crash occurred in Valley Township at around 11 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Route 30. When authorities arrived on the scene, they discovered that the box truck hit the back of the tractor-trailer, and significant damage resulted to the front end of the box truck. The accident resulted in a fatality, but it wasn’t reported which driver was killed or if the other driver suffered any injuries. The fatal truck collision is being investigated and no preliminary findings have been reported. The circumstances of the crash or the cause cannot be determined at this time. The family of a person killed in a truck accident could file a wrongful death suit. This would cover medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages and damages caused by the truck accident. A wreck involving a truck can result in a massive […]

ONE DEAD AFTER MOTORCYCLE COLLISION

By Jonathan Russell of Drake, Hileman & Davis, P.C. posted in Motorcycle Accidents on Thursday, May 2, 2013. Residents across the nation notice that the warm weather brings out more motorcycles on the road in Pennsylvania. Many motorcyclists travel long distances in large groups, but when the weather is nice, single riders can be seen on roadways all over. The increase of bikers on the road also means an increase of motorcycle accidents. Often, automobile drivers don’t notice these small vehicles on the road because they can easily hide in a blind spot or maneuver quickly from one lane to another. It is important that both bikers and drivers are aware of one another, watch their speeds and are cautious when changing lanes. A motorcycle crash occurred in Edinboro and resulted in the death of the motorcyclist. The collision happened around 5 p.m. and involved a vehicle and a motorcycle. When emergency crews responded to the incident, they transported the biker to the hospital where he later died. The coroner’s report indicates that the cause of death was from blunt-force trauma and internal injuries. The conditions of the driver of the vehicle were not reported Police are investigating the crash and the cause has not been determined at this time. If the other driver caused the collision, the loved ones of the motorcyclist could file a wrongful death claim. This would allow them to gain compensation for any financial burdens that resulted from the accident. Medical bills, funeral costs, pain and […]
