TRACTOR-TRAILER ACCIDENT RESULTS IN ONE FATALITY
Jun 14, 2013 - Truck Accidents
Pennsylvania residents understand that they can encounter several risks when they get behind the wheel and drive on the roadways. Whether it is day or night, hazards can occur on the road. These hazards in turn create situations where accidents can occur. Large trucks frequent major roadways, which make truck accidents likely to occur between various vehicles traveling down the roadway. A collision with these massive vehicles commonly results in the destruction of the smaller vehicle and causes the driver to suffer serious injuries. In some cases, the crash is so severe that it ends in fatalities.
A fatal tractor-trailer accident occurred recently in Jonestown going southbound on Interstate 81. The accident occurred shortly after the driver of a Chevy sedan struck a deer in the right hand lane of the Interstate. The vehicle remained disabled in the lane following the collision with the deer when a tractor-trailer in the right hand lane struck the rear of the disabled vehicle. This caused the Chevy to spin around and travel off of the road and into an embankment.
At the time of the incident, the female driver of the Chevy was not wearing her seatbelt, and when emergency crews arrived at the scene, the woman was pronounced dead. No injures were reported to the truck driver, but the truck sustained serious damages. The crash is still under investigation and no citations have been made at this time.
Depending on the liability of the collision, the driver killed in the fatal truck crash could have a wrongful death suit filed on her behalf by her loved ones. Compensation awarded from the claim would go toward funeral costs, damages, lost wages and pain and suffering.
Fatal accidents can be life changing and emotional. The loss of a loved one can impact one significantly, especially when it occurred so suddenly in an automobile accident and could result in financial burdens. Compensation from a wrongful death claim could ease their troubles and help with the coping process.
