Jun 21, 2013 - Car Accidents

Pennsylvania residents who have to travel during peak traffic times understand the usefulness of some roadways. Especially when time and distance are of importance, major roads — such as the freeway and turnpikes — are significant to the commute to work in the morning and late afternoon. When drivers are in a rush or are distracted on the roadway, often a car accident ensues. This not only leads to heightened traffic and road closures, but it also causes serious injuries, severe damage and even fatalities.

Police officers were recently called to respond to a multi-vehicle collision on the Susquehanna River Bridge located in Dauphin County. The crash happened at around 9:25 a.m. and initiated when a car was traveling in the wrong direction on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The automobile was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when it collided head-on with a tractor-trailer. This caused the truck to burst into flames and both people within the vehicle to be thrown out of the car.

Another vehicle was involved in the collision and police reported that both people in the car traveling in the wrong direction were injured. One was seriously injured and flown to the hospital, while the other was transported to the hospital via ambulance. In addition, two others were injured and taken to the hospital as well, although it wasn’t reported what vehicle they were from.

The investigation into this accident is ongoing and no citations were made at this time. A person injured in an accident like this could seek to find the wrong way driver liable by filing a personal injury suit. The claim could result in compensation that could go towards the expenses that resulted from the accident. Medical bills, damages and pain and suffering could be covered by the awarded compensation.

Distracted driving is often a cause for automobile collisions. This results when a driver is on the phone, texting while driving, speeding or not being attentive. This ultimately could result in a crash and several accident victims. It is important that drivers avoid any and all distractions in order to lessen the chances of an accident.

"I was injured in an accident and my truck was totaled. The guy who hit me had a low insurance policy. I reinjured my neck and shoulder in the accident. I thought nothing could be done since the guy had hardly any insurance and I had a previous condition, but Jonathan Russell from Drake, Hileman & Davis was able to get me a nice cash settlement!"
