Roadways are used on a daily basis and are tremendously important to assist with commerce, getting people to and from their destinations and providing safe routes for various types of vehicles. Although extremely beneficial, roadways are also the stage for tragic accidents. Although safety laws and features have been implemented in order to reduce risks and dangers on the roads, accidents do happen. This unfortunately could result in a serious accidents to people, including serious injuries and even fatalities.
Authorities in Waynesboro recently confirmed that five Pennsylvania residents were killed in an accident that involved two motorcycles and an SUV. The collision occurred near the Maryland state line when the SUV that was traveling northbound crossed the centerline. This resulted in the SUV striking a motorcycle, causing the SUV to spin around and strike a second motorcyclist.
Emergency crews responded to the three-vehicle collision. The fatal accident killed both motorcyclists, as well as their passengers and a passenger in the SUV. Investigation is still ongoing and the exact cause has yet to be determined. The driver of the SUV has not been cited at this time.
Following a police investigation of the accident, cause and liability could be determined and applied. If a driver is negligent and caused a motorcycle crash, they could be responsible for the resulting injuries, damages and deaths. In this case, the loved ones of the deceased could file a wrongful death claim against the negligent party in order to obtain an award for compensation. This could be used to alleviate any debt incurred from the accident such as medical bills, funerals expenses, damages and lost wages.
